Press conference: Healthy Workplaces Manage Dangerous Substances, Brussels, 24 April 12.00 noon

EU-OSHA, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, is set to launch its 2018-19 Healthy Workplaces Manage Dangerous Substances campaign jointly with the European Commission and the Bulgarian EU Council Presidency. The campaign challenges common misconceptions, raises awareness of the risks and disseminates good practice and resources for effective management of dangerous substances in the workplace.

Despite a great deal of European legislation aimed at protecting workers from dangerous substances, preventing related risks remains still a priority, in fact:

•17 % of EU workers report handling or being in skin contact with chemical products or substances for at least 25 % of their working time and

•15% breathing in smoke, fumes (such as welding or exhaust fumes), powder or dust (such as wood dust or mineral dust 1).

•Chemical or biological substances are present in 38 % of enterprises according to EU-OSHA’s enterprise survey.
